A high level of public speaking anxiety confronts Chinese advanced learners of English,both in extemporaneous and prepared speeches.The anxiety is caused by reasons found in ESL issues,composition,and delivery.In this essay,I will illustrate different forms of speaking anxiety found in Chinese English majors.By presenting the symptoms and analyzing the causes,we shall find that it is a triumvirate of rhetoric composition,delivery,and ESL training that has produced the special anxiety for Chinese English majors.And thus it is only through the combined efforts of the triumvirate that ways of alleviating the anxiety can be found.A suggested course design that encompasses topic selection,content emphasis,progress,and assessment is finally offered.
