Current status of oil shale resources was described as well as the oil shale resource utilization progress in foreign countries. There are more than 300 oil shale deposits in 40 countries around the world and the reserve of shale oil is 4 times as much as oil amount. U.S. Exxon Mobil Corporation processed oil shale with conductance heating crushing process; Shell Group of Companies conducted an underground retort test; Hongye Resource Company developed new mining technology. Oil shale in Estonia Enefit Corporation was mainly used in thermal electric generation which occupied 90 percent of the country’s electricity consumption. Queensland Energy Company invented Paraho process and constructed demonstration unit.
