An introduction to an energy-saving process flow selected for a 200 000 t/a ammonia synthesis unit was introduced. Calculations and comparisons were made for and between different processes of heat recovery, location of virgin gas and vent, and energy-saving refrigeration. The conclusion was that an ammonia converter should have an inlet and an outlet, the vent device should be placed after the coolexchanger, and the virgin gas should be located after the vent and before the ammonia cooler.
