中国近代报纸的诞生地并不在中国本土，而是由传教士在海外所创办的华文报纸。本文旨在从华文报纸发展的根本以及其带来的积极作用入手，论述这些华文报纸虽然在本质是为了宣扬宗教信仰，从精神上对华侨进行侵略。但在传播西方先进的科学技术和先进思想、开启民智，及为后来中国人自己创办报纸提供蓝本、培育人才方面起到了不可磨灭的积极作用。从而得出我们应当正确看待西方传教士们在中国的办报活动，并给予公正的评价。%The birthplace of the Chinese modern newspaper is not in China mainland, but established by the missionaries of the overseas Chinese newspapers. This paper expound from the fundamental of Chinese newspaper development and its positive role. Even the essence of this Chinese newspaper is to preach religion, and invaded the overseas Chinese form the spirit area. But the Chinese newspaper established by the missionaries plays an indelible positive role in spread the western advanced science, technology and thinking, intelligence, provides a blueprint for later founded of Chinese newspaper and cultivating talents. So we should treat the activities of western missionaries in China newspaper correctly, and give a fair evaluation to them.
