摘要

Local governments use the Internet and other information technologies to process and deliver information and services to their constituents, customers, and partners, a processes also known as e-government. While e-government has improved communication, information, and services interchange between local governments and citizens, it could also expose networks and systems to both internal and external threats, making them vulnerable and susceptible to data breaches and the misuse of personally identifiable information. Prior research has shown that human factors play a key role in ensuring the effectiveness of information security controls. Employee negligence, error, and ignorance of security policies have led to significant data breaches for organizations, resulting in the loss of millions of dollars. The study examined how demographic and information security climate variables correlate with the perception of self-efficacy of information security of local government employees. Specifically, the research utilized a web-based survey to examine how four factors: security climate, age, gender, and education, affect the perception of self-efficacy of information security of local government employees. The results of the survey analysis showed that there was a significant correlation between the perception of security climate and the perception of self-efficacy of information security for local government employees. This study did not find any significant correlation between the independent variables, education, age and gender respectively, and the dependent variable, perception of self-efficacy of information security.
