Contextualization is no new topic to the world of missiology, and strategies for how to present the Gospel in different contexts are constantly being developed. However, certain cultures have been under-studied by the missiological community, either due to the inability to access such ethnic groups or properly understand their culture. Tibet is an example of one such culture. An ethnicity without a land of their own, Tibetans are spread across several Indo-China nations in Inner Asia and the people group is divided into numerous subgroups who speak countless dialects. This paper will examine the unique religious and cultural background of Tibet and then observe the definition and application of contextualization in the world of missions, finally proposing the need for an adjusted contextualization strategy for presenting the Gospel to this people group.
