That's Pretty Cool: A Look at the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge as a Rhetorical Moment.

摘要

This thesis examines the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge as a rhetorical moment, analyzing the three main voices that, together, made up the phenomenon, and uses Cultural Contracts Theory (CCT) as a lens to analyze the communication between these three voices. The rhetorical model presented in this thesis provides a solid example of the efficacies of CCT as the framework for a rhetorical analysis and shows how CCT can be utilized in communication research outside of its original, cultural communication roots. Finally, this thesis draws multiple implications on the methodological, theoretical, and rhetorical levels and provides several directions for future research.
