Investigation of the relative effectiveness of videotape feedback provided prior to or following lifting for improving the safety of two-person transfers in a residential care facility.
A series of two experiments investigated the timing of videotape feedback for improving the safety of two-person transfers in a residential care facility for persons with developmental disabilities. In Experiment 1, five subjects received videotape feedback following lifts for the day. In Experiment 2, four subjects received exactly the same kind of feedback prior to lifts. The data for both experiments were evaluated using multiple baseline across subjects designs. The results indicated that videotape feedback increased the percentage of steps completed correctly for six of the nine subjects across the two experiments. Two of the five subjects who received videotape feedback following lifts (Experiment 1) improved their performance, whereas all four subjects who received videotape feedback prior to lifts (Experiment 2) improved their performance. Additionally, the size of effect was typically larger in Experiment 2 than in Experiment 1. Implications for behavioral theory and practice are discussed.
