摘要

This report documents how faculty members of a small department at a regional university college network, coordinate and collaborate with each other. The data gathered suggest that several factors influence the degree of collegial interaction. Geographic location, historical sharing experiences, working conditions and remuneration for curriculum development all appear to affect faculty's enthusiasm for sharing with their colleagues. The use of low-threshold technology such as email, Internet relay chat, asynchronous messaging and videoconferencing to facilitate collegial interaction is explored.; Implications of maintaining the status quo or deliberately encouraging enhanced collaboration are discussed, as are methods of incorporating non-threatening low-technology solutions that might help overcome problems of geographical separation and workload.
