摘要

This qualitative research celebrates and seeks understandings about individual and collective agency of women who apply their imaginations and democratic practices to make the world a better place with humanitarian engineering. This research about making audible and visible intersections of the lived experiences of females with humanitarian engineering experiences and design may inspire and beget imagination and new possibilities for positive action. It makes audible and visible the diverse ways in which each participant's identity is negotiated and the manner in which it is affected by fairness, equity, opportunities for free expressions, and by the (non)existence of democracy as she chooses to pursue humanitarian engineering experiences. Ideally, the findings and methodology will improve ways to include culturally- and socially-relevant designs and service learning into PreK to 16 education to develop interdisciplinary innovators that take HEED in facing the 21st Century Engineering Grand Challenges.
