摘要

This thesis is a collection of two poems, "Tenth anniversary" and "Thirteen ways of not saying torture." These poems work together to unsettle and interrogate the systematic displacement of violence following the September 11th attacks. These poems take up the attacks themselves and their aftermath, in especial the "Shock and Awe" bombing of Baghdad, the War on Terror generally, US immigration policy following the attacks, the status and treatment of detainees at Guantanamo Bay and local efforts in New York to represent the loss of life and infrastructure in an ongoing memoriam called "A Tribute In Light." The goal of these poems is to explore how violence is integrated and transformed in everyday life; to disrupt that process and force the suppressed violence to recur at the level of language.
