摘要

The purpose of this study was to determine if water intake in fifth grade students, as a contribution to total beverage intake volume, differs by attitude toward water as a beverage. This sample included eight fifth grade students who regularly attend the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Ana.;Both null hypotheses were accepted---there was no significant difference in water intake levels, as a contribution to total beverage intake volume, by attitude toward water as a beverage or perception of the health benefits of water. While obtaining accurate data is difficult with self-reported intake, this study suggests most children are not drinking enough fluid. Despite positive attitudes toward water, children are continuing to drink less than the amount recommended.;The most common sources of drinking water were bottled water and drinking fountains. Further research exploring attitudes toward water from various water sources is needed, as well as research into the motivators and barriers to increasing water intake.
