摘要

The purpose of this study is to examine the affects of advisement on the retention rates of freshmen students at four-year institutions. More specifically, the study will gather data that focuses on student demographics, types of advising programs, accessibility of advising services, and perceptions surrounding issues of advising services. Retention rates of students from their first year to their second year are generally considered an important indicator of the institution's overall success potential. This study examines factors related to the retention of first year students in an effort to determine why some students fail to return to their institution as well as whether selected student characteristics are related to retention. This study will also explore the effects of a variety of demographic, college environment and perception variables upon retention.
