Today's organizations are reliant upon teams to meet competitive pressures. While today's organizations rely on teams to meet organizational goals, today's organizations expect individuals to take responsibility for their own careers. However, to understand the dynamics of career development individuals must have the right tools to incorporate career path management into their organizational activities. Schein's Career Anchors Model is a tool that addresses the understanding of career paths and allows team members to address the issue of balancing individual career requirements with team and organizational requirements. Seventy-one employees from two manufacturing companies located in Southern California participated in this case study to investigate the relationship between career anchors and a team's ability to meet organizational goals.
