This research project created the Specialized Thesaurus in the Electronic Reference Services (TESREFEL). It is a tool for the development of standard indexing and the recovery of multitype documents related to the virtual reference services in the Spanish language.; Objectives. TESREFEL is oriented, first, to contribute to the field of the information as a tool of reference for the normalization and the control of the specialized vocabulary in the electronic reference services, eliminating ambiguities between the terms and presenting/displaying its semantic and hierarchic relations. Second, it tries to enrich and to facilitate the indexing and recovery of the information.; Method. The method of study selected for the development of this product was of qualitative nature. As reference was used the Guidelines for the Construction, Format, and Management of Monolingual Thesauri (ANSINISO Z39.19-2003), (ANSI 2003) published for the National Information Standards Organization (NISO). In their elaboration two programs were used: ProCite 5 and Thesaurus Construction System (TCS-8).; Results. TESREFEL appears as a Web site in two integrated parts: first it constitutes the data base, in which they are identified, analyzed and organized in 326 selected terms; and, second, it informs on the elaboration and the development of the Thesaurus. In addition it provides a Manual to Policies and Procedures. The Thesaurus is available in the Internet, through the electronic direction: http://egcti.upr.edu/tesrefel.
