摘要

Purpose. The purpose of this study was to determine how prevalent musculoskeletal injuries are in members of the USAMU Shotgun Team, and to identify patterns of injury and risk factors.; Methods. The population of this study consisted of most members of the Army Marksmanship Unit Shotgun Team (N=9). This study used a 52 question three section survey questionnaire developed by an expert in the competitive sports shooting field involving general demographics, training, and musculoskeletal injuries. Frequency counts and distribution were used to describe prevalence and identify risk factors. Descriptive statistics (mean, median, std, dev) were also generated for each appropriate variable collected.; Results. The response rate for this study was 75% (9/12 respondents). The participants consisted predominantly of men (89%) with an age range from 18 to 47 years. Sixty-seven percent of participants began training between 11-15 years of age. Forty-four percent of participants reported training for shooting for at-least 16-20 years. Participants reported training specifically for shooting an average of 4.3 +/- .87 days a week and an average of 3.9 +/- 1.3 hours a day on the days training for shooting. Participants reported doing flexibility training an average 1.4 +/- 1.7 days a week and fifty-six percent of participants reported doing flexibility/stretching training 30 minutes a day on the days specifically doing flexibility training. Participants reported doing resistance/weight training an average 2.9 +/- 1.05 days a week and eighty-eight percent of participants reported doing either resistance/weight training 30 minutes to 1 hour a day or doing 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes a day on the days specifically doing resistance/weight training. Participants reported doing cardiovascular/aerobic training 3 +/- 1 days a week and fifty-six percent reported doing cardiovascular/aerobic training 30 minutes to 1 hour on the days specifically doing cardiovascular/aerobic training.; Conclusion. We were unable to conclude the prevalence or identify risk factors for musculoskeletal injuries in our study due to the low incidence of reported musculoskeletal injuries. Our study, however, did help us understand possible methodology limitations and provide demographic characteristics and training variable information for future studies.
