性别、社区与文化：《简·皮特曼小姐自传》中黑人女性的身份建构

摘要

欧内斯特·詹姆斯·盖恩斯是享誉美国南方文学界的一位非裔作家，他的六部小说讲述着南方黑人中一个又一个平凡而惊心动魄的故事。这些故事中既有自尊而刚烈的黑人男性，也有自立而坚强的黑人女性。丰富多彩且毫无偏见的性别书写是解读盖恩斯作品的一个重要砝码。
　　《简·皮特曼小姐的自传》是盖恩斯的代表作，也是他唯一一本以黑人女性为主角的小说。黑人女性简·皮特曼在其一百余年的生命历程中，从一个失去父母亲人、无人关注、身处身份危机的黑人奴隶，到一位最终获得女性主体与尊严的黑人领袖，有力地证明了黑人女性独有的价值并拓展其身份内涵。这既颠覆了美国白人文学中所刻画的黑人女性愚昧无知的刻板形象，也凸显了美国南方黑人女性在寻找自我的历程中从黑人两性、黑人社区和黑人文化中所汲取的力量。
　　本文的简介部分从盖恩斯生平与作品的研究综述入手，管窥黑人女性的独特价值，观之于文本，简·皮特曼的成长历程并非一帆风顺，由于各种原因，经历严重的身份危机，这为其身份构建有提供了强大的动力。第一部分论证了三位黑人男性皮特曼、奈德、吉米对简的身份构建的重要性。在分析简与黑人男性的互动关系的同时，关注黑人男性为黑人女性性别身份的建构提供的契机，强调黑人女性的身份构建对黑人男性的重要影响。第二部分以简所经历的一个又一个社区为单位，逐步分析她的社区身份被识别、认同和重视的过程。简构建了独立、自强和勇敢的主体特性，并肩负起对黑人社区的使命。第三部分论述简在与自然的相处中，受其保护，从中疗伤，实现人与自然之间交流与对话，内化非洲传统文化中对自然的天然依存感，并传承南方黑人的优秀文化传统，从而建构自我的文化身份。最后，本论文认为，盖恩斯是少数正视并浓墨书写黑人女性的黑人男性作家，而简自传体式的身份建构也赋予了黑人两性的和谐、黑人社区的团结、黑人文化的传承新的内涵，因此关注黑人女性及其身份建构是解读盖恩斯作品也是学习非裔美国文学的一个重要视角。
