语篇功能对等与小说翻译—兼评《大卫·科波菲尔》三个译本

摘要

本文通过对狄更斯的小说《大卫·科波菲尔》三个中译本的对比研究，从语篇语言学的角度，结合文学理论对小说的翻译进行了系统性的探讨。 第一部分介绍了语篇语言学这一新兴学科的发展，及其对翻译研究的影响---功能对等应建立在语篇层次上。在这一部分中，主要对哈蒂姆的语篇翻译观进行了简单评述，指出语篇的翻译应从语境、语篇类型、语篇结构以及语篇性几个方面入手。 第二部分，对小说这种文学体裁的特点作了深入探究。作为小说，最大的特点就是“偏离”---对日常语言形式的一种偏移，它表现在作者对于话语形式一种个性化的选择，在翻译中这种文体特点应得到保留；小说的另一个特点，从语篇学的角度上来说，是“语篇中的语篇”，即在小说这个宏观语篇之中又蕴含着许许多多不同类型的微观语篇，翻译过程中应考虑两个层面的互动关系。最后，作者对小说翻译现状做了简要的反思，分析了造成“虚假对等”的原因。 第三部分开始进入了本文的分析阶段，旨在将哈蒂姆等人的语篇翻译方法运用到小说语篇的分析与翻译中。在这一部分中，作者以《大卫·科波菲尔》译本为例，尝试对小说篇章中的语境三维度进行较为深入的剖析，并结合叙事学及文体学的因素，对小说中“偏离”这一美学现象的翻译问题进行探讨。 第四部分从语篇性这一方面，对三个译本进行批评。这一部分分析了语篇性的两个重要标准——衔接与连贯。这两个标准是判断语篇与非语篇的准绳。但由于不同的语言习惯不同，原文与译文的衔接手段也不尽相同。除此之外，衔接或连贯上的“非逻辑性”常常造成意想不到的美学效果，同时也为译者制造了难题，因此也成为本章重点探讨的对象。
