评价的语篇功能——以英语社论为例

摘要

语言作为社会符号系统具有表达各个层面的意义潜势，实现概念、人际和语篇三种元功能。语言元功能之间的互动关系是语篇分析中值得研究的问题。在系统功能语言学中，评价是语篇语义层面三大人际语义学系统之一。评价研究从体裁（语类）、语法、词汇和语篇视角，关注评价意义生成过程和评价语篇功能表征，分析语篇激活的评价意义、可及的评价选择、调用的评价策略和生成的潜在效果，识解表达主体态度、调节人际关系和组织语篇三种功能。已有研究主要关注前两个方面评价的人际元功能研究，忽略了评价的衔接和连贯、主位和信息结构、体裁组织等三个方面的语篇元功能研究。
　　在系统功能语言学的理论视阈，和评价系统的关照下，通过语篇元功能的视角，本研究旨在探索英语社论新闻语篇中评价系统的语篇功能，主要包括三个研究问题:(1)评价意义通过哪些语篇机制来实现人际元功能和语篇元功能互动关系？(2)评价意义如何在语篇发展过程中实现语篇语义层面上的组织配置模式？(3)评价意义因为什么变量或因素来解释其交际效果和语篇功能？
　　围绕这些核心研究问题，本研究采用语篇驱动的个体语篇发展分析方法，对《纽约时报》关于“9.11”恐怖袭击的两个社论语篇进行定性、个案研究。其研究程序或步骤是:首先，基于评价系统理论框架，构建了评价篇章性组篇机制分析框架，包括四个模块、三个层面、两个维度和一个中介变量。然后，从四个模块方面，依次分析评价系统资源作为重要的组篇机制，实现论证和劝说的体裁交际目的、团结一致的人际修辞效果和有机整体的语篇连贯功能。最后，综合起来，通过两个实例对比，例证和展示所构建的分析框架的可行和适用，最终揭示社论新闻的可识别的体裁地位、区别性语域属性和独特的语篇本质。
　　评价的衔接连贯分别依赖五组态度词汇衔接链、级差修饰链和介入指称链，作为衔接机制，标示评价韵律繁殖的耦合、和谐、格律的三种手段，和饱和、加强、支配的三种模式，析出与体裁阶段和语域语场密切相关的评价分布模式、协同模式和交互模式，体现辩证、雄辩、劝说的三种评价论证方式，一种合理或合法的评价连贯关系，和像似、隐喻、符号或修辞的评价连贯原则。
　　评价的主位和新信息关注，当评价资源被投射或配置在最大主位区域和最小新信息-述位的两个语篇显著位置上，作为组篇机制，实现四个方而的元功能。评价主位概念上识解语篇参与者的可见度、过程的名词化和及物性衔接和谐，逻辑上构建概念分类、拓展关系和轨道式、分类式和串联式的论证结构，人际上编码取值倾向、对话定位和非参与者主位的选择，语篇上实现八种推进模式、面向双向的超主位和评价韵律和格律的互动。而评价新信息可识别为经验危机点，逻辑核心点、人际争议点、语篇凸显点，分别体现句子功能观、修辞结构理论、社会秩序理论、音系学、语用交际的基本原则。二者与语旨变量的接触（亲密度）、地位（权力）、价值论（价值系统）三个维度密切相关。
　　评价的体裁组织主要体现在微观逻辑连词和宏观元话语标记，作为语篇机制，实现微观合法化和宏观劝说的交际目的。逻辑连词，宏观上，识解体裁结构组织的四个原则（粒子、轨道、格律和韵律），一个典型的宏观结构（客观化前提或对比、积极或消极评价、指导或警告），添加的和对比的两种论证模式，和一个文化差异的原则;微观上，标示在评价-依据模式中，合理性或合法性修辞连贯关系、两种反驳声称的论证模式、不同学科的分析型和综合型两种知识结构、和论证的充分性和可接受性原则。而元语篇标记，宏观上识解在社论的三个体裁阶段中，四种元语篇标记（模糊语、言据的、态度的和介入的话语标记）所构建的三种权威性或可靠性论证劝说方式，即作为职业权威的、社会代表的、和知识分子的诉诸;微观上标示在问题-解决模式中，语篇主位的因果合法性、言据可靠性、条件让步性和时空位置性四组功能，评论附加语的命题、主语、言语行为、内在语篇和人际倾向四组元功能，和元语篇名词在补语小句、不定式、介词和特殊疑问词四种语法构式中的八组功能（概念、论证、言据、可能性、事物、属性、关系、语篇等名词）。二者与语式变量的语境依赖度、语境校准、作者意图、体裁规约、学科知识和文化社区等密切相关。
　　评价的修辞策略在宏观维度上，决定评价立场的选择，即通过自言或借言识解的主体性价值立场、主体间对话立场和社区性和盟立场，以及对对话扩展或对话压缩的选择;在微观维度上，决定体裁不同阶段的态度、介入和级差的互动模式的选择。立场性和态度性评价依赖介入的人格化和去人格化、态度的铭刻和引发、级差的语力和聚焦等策略。在词汇语法层面，评价策略通过投射结构、情态语法、及物性模式、评价性词汇等机制体现。与社论体裁阶段相关的主观化客观、异言化团结和合法化劝说的三火类基本策略，及其人际修辞功能和语篇效果，主要依赖语境、语类和语域变量进行解释。
　　本研究的创新点是:首先，构建的评价篇章性组篇机制的分析框架反映了评价系统人际功能与语篇功能的互动关系，为评价研究提供新的视角、系统的思路和全面整合的分析工具。有助于揭示语篇的评价意义是如何在语篇中按一定模式分布和推进;如何取得与交际目的相关的修辞效果，以及如何由体裁和语域等语境因素促动和支配的。其次，从四个模块方面的分析程序和研究步骤，扩大了衔接和连贯的研究范围、延伸了主位和新信息的理论概念、发展了体裁的组织原则、析出了语篇策略的中介变量。再次，关于语篇元功能的使能作用的正确理解和对评价组篇机制的功能范畴分类，对学术论证写作、修辞教学和多模态评价语篇分析具有重要的参考价值。当然，鉴于本研究以手动个案分析和定性研究为主，期待通过后续的大型语料库、跨语类和语域的语篇分析实践、先进的数据统计软件和功能标注工具，来优化分析过程和验证分析结论，确保分析的效度和信度，推进研究广度和深度。
