外语学习中的主要个体差异及其对教学的影响

摘要

随着第二二语言习得研究在过去三十年的深入和发展，对第二语言和外语的学习与研究也迅速发展起来，研究者们在研究语言共性的同时，也对语言学习者的个体差异进行了大量的调查和研究，从而解释为什么不同的语言学习者有不同的学习效果。 本文通过观察，并在研究了前人实验成果的基础上，认为学习者的语言潜能，态度，动机，性格和学习策略的运用等方面的个人差异是影响学习者成功学习第二语言或外语的重要因素。语言潜能分为四个部分，即语音能力，语法能力，推理能力以及记忆能力。态度和动机密切相关，态度对外语学习的影响主要通过动机。动机分为两种，即综合型动机和工具型动机。有些情况下，持综合型动机的学习者容易成功地学习第二语言或外语，而在有些情况下，持工具型动机的学习者更具热情，更容易成功。性格与语言学习的关系也比较紧密。一般认为，性格外向，自尊心强，焦虑程度低的学习者更易成功。学习策略是学习者在语言学习中运用的某些特殊的方法或手段，是学习者获取、储存、提取和处理信息的方法和步骤。正确使用学习策略是保证学习者成功的重要条件。 本文指出，研究学习者个体差异对外语教学有极大的启示。在我们的英语教学中，教师应充分考虑学习者个体差异，对不同的学习者采用不同的教学方法，提高学生的学习动机，另一方面，帮助学生分析个人特点，选择适合个人的学习策略，培养学生的学习自主性，从而进一步提高教学效果。
