摘要

本文通过对《一个青年艺术家的肖像》的叙事学分析，揭示了小说作者詹姆斯·乔伊斯在叙述中的超脱与引退和对人物的关注与同情并存的现象。文章一方面用斯坦泽的叙事学理论，从人称、聚焦方式、反映型人物和叙述声音等方面证实了作者的引退以及作品中距离感的存在；另一方面又从作品的创作、结构安排和作者对读者反应的控制等方面分析了作者对小说主人公实际上的关切与同情，说明作品中的距离感并不是源自作者对小说主人公的态度；最后揭示了这种距离感的真正来源是作者乔伊斯对其祖国爱尔兰所怀有的复杂情感。
