摘要

《虎妈战歌》是由华裔美国人蔡美儿撰写的关于如何教养女儿的半自传体著作。它引起了中美教育界的激烈争论。鉴于家庭教育的重要性,以及其在不同文化中呈现出不同的特征,作者试图从跨文化交际的角度,分析导致这种争论和产生不同家庭教育观念的根源。其中,文化的核心——文化价值观对家庭教育的影响可谓深远。本文主要从文化价值观的视角对中美两国的家庭教育进行比较分析。
  从教育目的看,由于受到群体本位意识的影响,中国家庭教育强调个体与整个家族的联系,在教育目的的价值取向上倾向于家庭本位,并形成了要求孩子通过掌握一定的文化知识和技能而“成才”的教育目的并且使之服务于整个家族,即“光宗耀祖”。美国家庭教育由于受到个体本位意识的影响,在教育目的倾向于个体本位,并注重培养孩子的社会适应能力。
  从教育内容看,不同的成功观使中国的家庭教育注重对孩子进行功利性的文化知识教育,而美国的家庭教育注重对孩子进行生存和社会实践教育。悲观倾向的中国人常认为“不吃苦中苦难为人上人”,任何值得精通的技能都不可能是轻松愉快的,而乐观的美国人则认为兴趣和快乐是通向成功的唯一动力和途径。
  从教育方式看,中国紧密的家庭观念和孝道决定了家庭教育方式为家长主导决定型,而美国的松散的家庭观念则成为民主型教育方式的基础。
  受不同文化价值观影响的中美家庭教育各具特色、各具优缺,针对诸多差异的深层原因,本文尝试着从上述三个侧面提出不同文化基础的家庭教育的改进建议:中美的家庭教育都侧重于“成才”的目的,应将重点更多的转向“成人”教育;家长在确定家庭教育的目的时要充分考虑孩子的意愿,不能把家长的想法强加于孩子身上;减少家庭对子女的文化知识教育的功利性,增加全面评价;家长要学会放手,让孩子建立独立自主能力;促进孩子“良性循环”等等。对于美国家长,要注意“放手”和民主的度,防止疏离亲子关系以及孩子在错误的路上越走越远以及加强孩子基础知识的积累等。
  在深刻理解两国家庭教育差异背后的不同价值观基础之后,期待通过改进和优势的互相融合,使我国的家庭教育更加合理、完善。
