The survey focused on urban roads of Eldoret Municipality, in the republic of Kenya.rnNumeric Traffic Count and Classifier (NTCC) devices were installed on selected roads torncapture traffic information on: volumes, speed, direction, vehicle class, day and time.rnSelection of cordon lines and screen lines was done using Geographic InformationrnSystems (GIS) and Global Position Systems (GPS) with reference of land use and urbanrnboundary data. The NTCC devices were programmed to capture 24 Hour traffic data forrnseven days (Monday- Sunday). A total of 38 devices were installed in 19 locations. Afterrninstallation, the study team undertook daily monitoring and maintenance of the NTCCrndevices to ensure system integrity.rnThe results indicate that majority of the devices adequately capture traffic data.rnChallenges experienced during the study included difficulties in excavating and peggingrnthe devices to the roads, traffic flow interruption, lack of appropriate road shoulders,rnvandalism and theft of devices, and destruction due to storm and sewer water and vehiclernmanoeuvre.
