Massive Ge targets have been irradiated with 1.06 μm at incident energies of ~125 J/cm of line focus. A novel focusing arrangement was employed to produce a very uniform line focus. Gain was observed for the first time on a 3d-3p core-excited Ne-like transition. Five 3p-3s lasing transitions were also observed.
