A new method, which uses grey theory and eigenmatrix combined by moment invariant of two-dimension diagram objects to identify the orbit of machine shaft centerline automatically, is discussed in this paper. The identification of the axis orbit is a two-dimension figure pattern recognition problem essentially. The key of the pattern recognition of the axis orbit using Grey Theory is how to choose the parameters that can reflect the shape of different axis orbit to build the model matrix. The association degree analysis method is an important method in systems analysis by using Grey Theory. It uses the similar degree of the inner relationship or the developmental trend of the factors in a system to estimate the association degree of the factors. The principle and its application procedure of the method are introduced in detail in the paper. It gives simulation results of automatic identification for three typical axis orbits. It is proved that the method is effective and practicable.
