In our recent work, we accomplished a principal-subordinate type management information system (MIS) for teaching and educational management. In order to overcome the limitation of restricted Internet bandwidth, satellite IP broadcast technology is used to transmit assorted courseware provided by network schools in principal station. The system is a principal-subordinate type system, which contains a principal station and some subordinate stations. Both principal station and subordinate stations have their own databases. The subordinate databases are under the control of principal database. To avoid using the expensive synchronal software, we achieve the synchronization between principal and subordinate stations by synchronal on requirement. Synchronal on requirement means that the principal and subordinate databases are not keeping real-time synchronization. The subordinate stations send and update their management information on their own requirement. So the subordinate stations need not connect Internet all the time. They connect Internet only when they want to send management information. Such a management information system is suitable for large demand on distance education and shortage of Internet basic capital constructions, especially in developing areas.
