Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) becomes a popular research project all over the world because of its high efficiency and low emissions. HEV is driven by IC engine and electric motor, and its powertrain is more complex than conventional vehicle. Therefore, the complexity of an HEV powertrain together with vehicle's many operating modes demands a reliable control strategy be developed to guarantee stable and consistent operation. The Flexible Optimization Control Strategy (FOCS) presented here optimizes efficiency and emissions of PHEV. FOCS allows users to define the weight of control objectives in GUI, and firstly optimizes operating point of IC engine according the weights, and then distribute the power demand between IC engine and electric motor. In the study, a forward faced simulation is used to study the powertrain control process. By analysis of simulation result, it is confirmed that the efficiency and emissions performance of PHEV can be improved under the control of FOCS.
