'HELPNET-KEITAI SYSTEM and ITS SERVICES'

Japan Mayday Service (JMS) started an emergency service called the 'HELPNET service'for traffic accidents, in September 2000. When a traffic accident occurs, the in-vehicle unitdetects the deployment of air-bags and sends an emergency report with Global PositioningSystem (GPS) information to the ambulance and/or police via HELPNET. The objective ofthis service is to reduce the death toll by reducing the reporting time and providing accurateinformation.In June 2002, we started another service called 'HELPNET-Keitai', using a GPS-equippedcellular phone. Therefore, 'HELPNET' doesn't cover only vehicle troubles but also suddenillnesses, maritime incidents, etc. These services could make a significant contribution toresolving increasing social problems.
