Currently there is available a specific and quantifiable method for phytate. With the necessary technology the analysis of foods and feedstuffs can be made, calculation of phytate:zinc molar ratio can be calculated and zinc deficiency diagnosed for monogastric animals and humans that is more precise than by any other means A phytate:zinc molar ratio greater than 10 for an individual or group of individuals constitutes zinc deficiency by definition (Lo et al. 1981).
