摘要

It was determined that polar methanol was considerably more effective as a solvent for isolation of antioxidative substances from dragonhead than acetone. Dragonhead methanol extracts were effective in retarding corn oil peroxidation and scavenging of free DPPH~· radicals. The effectiveness of dragonhead AO isolated from the whole herb and DAE isolated from deodorized herb with acetone was significantly lower. The activity of both with acetone obtained extracts was similar in DPPH~· radical scavenging; however, DAE was more efficient in stripped corn oil. Rosmarinic acid as a major antioxidant constituent was identified in dragonhead for the first time. The presence of two flavonoids, namely homoplantaginin and apigenin, which can contribute to the antioxidant activity, was also reported in dragonhead for the first time. Further investigations ate needed tot elucidation ot the sttuctute of dtagonhead constituents separated by HPLC in the present study, which are not known.
