A New Nuclear Engineering Program in the Idaho Universities

In the 00 request for proposals on the contract toorganize and operate the Idaho National Laboratory(INL), the Department of Energy stated its desire for thenew Laboratory to play a major role in revitalization ofnuclear engineering and science education and research inthe U.S. One outgrowth was a partnership-- the IdahoUniversity Consortium (IUC)-- forged among the threeIdaho research universities (Idaho State University,University of Idaho, and Boise State University), whichbegan working with the INL and its Center for AdvancedEnergy Studies (CAES). The objective was much closerties between the parties in education and research. A firstconcrete step is a new baccalaureate degree program atISU in nuclear engineering, which began in the fall termof 00.
