This paper presents the system design, implementation,rnand a description of the Athabasca University (AU) mobilernlearning initiatives, and highlights some of the challengesrnin design and deployment of mobile learning in a postsecondaryrnsetting. AU is Canada's leading distancerneducation and e-learning institution. For an openrnuniversity, it is essential to make its online resourcesrnaccessible to a wide range of users and devices Thernuniversity has therefore developed an effective mobilerndevice friendly environment for students. The mobilernfriendly Digital Reading Room (DRR), Digital Thesis andrnProject Room (DTPR), Digital Reference Centre (DRC),rnand AirPAC are some of the outcomes of the project.rnAccess to courses is another important priority. An openrnaccess course in English Second Language was developedrnas a proof of concept for courses content delivered on arnvariety of mobile devices. A nursing application forrnmobile learning is also described.
