INTERNATIONAL INTERNET DISCUSSION ON ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES AMONG ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CHILDREN

This paper is a report of an Internet discussion project onrnenvironmental issues between French and Japanesernelementary school children. The title of the conference isrnMottainai. The Japanese word mottainai means “what arnwaste” in English. During the conference, the children usernwebcams to communicate on the Internet. The French andrnJapanese children considered waste according to theirrnown experiences and discussed their findings with theirrninternational partners. The audience, mass media, andrnchildren were all affected by the experience. After thernconference, the Japanese teachers discussed somernpedagogical findings. This paper is a report on ediscussionsrnand pedagogical strategies gleaned from them.
