Itaipu dam has been in operation since 1982. The instruments of the monitoring system were installed during construction, so that there are many with more than two decades of records. From the interpretation of their results it became apparent that it was necessary to reevaluate the control values of many instruments, which were calculated according to criteria, properties and conditions established during the initial stage of the project for design purposes. In order to determine these values, two and three-dimensional mathematical models were elaborated taking into account the "as built" characteristics of the dam and its foundations. The calibration of the models was carried out so that the calculated values of dam deflections and rock deformations agreed with the measured ones for the same loading and temperature conditions. The main features of the models, the criteria defined and the results obtained are presented.
