We present a selection of own results demonstrating the effect of equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) on several wrought and cast Mg alloys, including AZ31, AS21X, Mg-Ni and ZK60. The enhancement of the yield strength and changes in ductility, as well as the extension of fatigue life are discussed, along with the microstructures produced. In addition, the influence of ECAP on the acoustic emission is reported. A residual strain hardening capacity (albeit relatively small) associated with the microstructure found in some cases provides sufficient -and sometimes enhanced - ductility of the ECAP-processed Mg alloys. The potential of ECAP for improving superplastic properties is illustrated for the case of alloy ZK60.
