Underground mining exploitation may induce mining damage of surface building objects.This highly harmful phenomenon instigated numerous attempts undertaken by researchers from all over the world at describing the influence of underground excavation on surface deformation and surface buildings.First theories based on Gauss function distribution,applied also nowadays, appeared already in 1950s.Later, owing to a massive development of calculation techniques and wide-spread availability of numerical methods, there appeared opportunities of using numerical calculations in deformation prognosis.Such methods allow for analyzing a larger number and scope of factors affecting the obtained results as long as proper numerical models are assumed.While constructing numerical models, researchers or engineers should pay a particular attention to the selection of proper geometry of the model, proper constitutive model describing rock and soil strata behavior, proper values of rock mass parameters prior to exploitation and after exploitation.The paper presents selected numerical methods and their applicability in calculation of mining-induced surface deformation.
