This paper describes the new integration platformrnGEOHARP (Geographic harmonizing Platform) forrndata interconnectivity. This platform is meant tornintegrate Geographical Databases, which are located atrndifferent operational facilities, and serve different usersrnsegments independently. Therefore GEOHARPrnfacilitates an higher level of information sharing andrnintegration, allowing the user to access a broader basernof data not necessarily coherent in terms ofrngeographical projection datum, and semantic. Thernsignificance of coherent layers of geographical data isrnparticularly important in the context of objectsrnreconnaissance based on high and very high resolutionrnsatellite data. The implementation of GEOHARPrnrequires a comprehensive analysis of the existingrnarchiving systems, spanning from commerciallyrnavailable to customized ones.rnThe general architecture of GEOHARP will be shown,rntogether with some key functionalities that allow torngenerate high quality raster images and vector datarnoverlays. The main features of GEOHARP are onlinernprojection conversion algorithms and semanticrnintegration between databases, witch are not invasivernwhile accessing to the different platforms involved inrnthe integration. Part of the discussion will pivot around:rna) the quality of this interoperation platform whichrngrant an high integration level; and b) the potential usesrnin a Region Based Information Retrieving approach.
