EM Channel Estimation Algorithm for OFDM Wireless Communication Systems

In this paper, an Expectation and Maximization (EM) channel estimation algorithm is proposed for orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) wireless communication systems. The algorithm provides minimum mean square error channel fading estimates without requiring a priori knowledge of the channel fading statistics. Simulation results show that the proposed EM channel estimation algorithm without information on channel fading statistics can provide nearly the same performance as the Kidman estimation algorithm with perfect information on channel fading statistics, and is more suitable for practical OFDM wireless communication systems.
