In the present paper, the mechanism of the supercritical fluid dyeing (SCFD) will be discussed, summarizing the solubility of some disperse dyes, the swelling of the fibers, the adsorption isotherms and the diffusion coefficient of some dyes into PET fibers. Applying the SCFD principle, an attempt has been done to impregnate some functional compounds into various kinds of polymer plates and fibers. Some polymers with molecular weight between 1. 000 to 5. 000 and some organic metal complexes were selected as functional compounds. A hydrophilic property and an ultra-high water repellent property could be acquired on PET fabrics by impregnating PEG 1.000~2.000 and Silicon 5.000, respectively. In addition, as a new pre- treatment for metal plating in polymer materials and synthetic fibers, some organic metal complexes were impregnated into them by scCO_2 fluid. Using metal clusters, which were formed in the polymer plates or fibers by removing the ligands by appropriate after-treatments, the non-electrical metal plating could be easily carried out.
