Effect of starch on the structure and properties of nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR)/montmorillonite nanocomposite by mixing and cocoagulating montmorillonite aqueous suspension and NBR latex was investigated. X-ray diffraction spectrum (XRD) and transmission electron microscope (TEM) photos indicated that the montmorillonite is completely exfoliated when the amount of starch was 10 phr. Scanning electronic microscope (SEM) and TEM photos showed that starch particles became larger when the amount of starch increased from 10 phr to 20 phr. The results of mechanical properties indicated that the mechanical properties are improved with the increase of starch amount.
