Natural systems agriculture: A new approach for redesigning Canadian farming systems

摘要

Cropping systems in western Canada are based predominantly on simplified,monoculture-based,input-driven production of annual crops.This production model has resulted in unintended negative environmental and social consequence,including losses of both agricultural and natural biodiversity,and low energy efficiency.Ecologically-based farming systems are an alternative to the prevailing system.Ecologically-based farming systems rely on natural processes to support agricultural production,while reducing reliance on external inputs and providing a level of economic stability.
