DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE NEW DUTCH NH1816 CLASS LIFEBOAT, SUCCESSOR OF THE ARIE VISSER CLASS

In 2009 the KNRM (Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution) started the development of the next generation lifeboat.rnAt the moment the KNRM has 10 vessels of the Arie Visser Class, RIB-type vessels of 19 meter length. These vesselsrnproved to be very reliable and capable rescue boats. However, the technical University of Delft developed arnrevolutionary new hull shape, the Sea-Axe, which improves a great deal the seakeeping and the safety of the crew, asrnwell as the performance of the vessel. Damen Shipyards adopted this new hull shape to implement it in the design and torntest it together with the Arie Visser class for seakeeping, resistance, maneuverability and course stability.rnThis paper focus on the comparative tests of the parent hull (Arie Visser class) and the new design, the SAR 1906 of thernNH1816 class.
