In this study, the distributions of the residual stresses in the top coatings of TBC by the EB-PVD method with rotating the substrate were measured. The formation of the columnar structure of the EB-PVD TBCs was discussed. The obtained results are summarized as follows:rn(1) The in-plane residual stress was a small compression, and became a large compression near the interface.The out-of-plane residual stress was a small tension, and became a compression near the interface. The magnitude of both residual stresses decreased with the increase in the rotation speed. The rotation of the substrate improves the residual stress in the EB-PVD TBCs. The rotation speed of 20rpm was the best condition from a viewpoint of the residual stress distribution.rn(2) The columnar structure is composed of the core and peripheral part. The core is made by growth of the fourfold texture of the 〈111〉 plane, the peripheral part is made by the feather-like structure of ZrO_2 〈111〉 and 〈100〉 growth.
