The removal of a contaminant from a soil can be increased by decreasing its sorption capacityrnand increasing desorption capacity. This research was aimed to determine the influence of acoustic excitationrnon sorption and desorption of heavy metal (zinc) from a clayey soil (illite silica mixture) by considering disaggregatedrnstate of soil. Batch equilibrium tests were performed with and without acoustic excitation. Acousticrnexcitations were generated by utilizing an acoustically enhanced washing machine. The test results showedrnthat once the heavy metal sorbed by the clay it’s desorption is a difficult process. The irrecoverableness of isothermsrnillustrated almost no removal of zinc ions from the soil grains with sequential dilution in a short duration.rnThe rate of difference of solid phase concentration with and without acoustics in desorption (Desorptionrnvelocity) increased with increase in dilution volume, with concentration of contaminant on solid phase andrnwith equilibrium concentration. Excitations can decrease the sorption and increase desorption of contaminant.
