COATED FLAKY ALUMINUMS - HIGH PERFORMANCE METALLICS FOR MASS COLORING PLASTICS

In order to overcome the intrinsic limitations in applicability and application safety of conventional aluminum pigments for plastics coloration, we have developed a novel class of hard-coated aluminum flakes with exceptionally high optical performance, broad applicability and an application safety profile hitherto reserved exclusively to nonmetallic inorganic materials. In this paper we want to describe their optical and physical properties, present models for the explanation of the unique optical performance of this class of compounds, as well as examples for state-of-the-art plastics applications.
