To study the histomorphometry of the critical size ovine cancel-lous defect model, healed with culture expanded ovine stem cells harvested from adipose tissue (ADSCs). To demonstrate the differences and similarities of the healing potential of ADSCs against bone marrow derived stem cell population (BMSCs) defect. It has been demonstrated that the adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) are capable of osteogenic differentiation under appropriate conditions in vitro.(P.Zuk et al, Tissue Engineering 2001, 7(2). However the data on in vivo potential of ADSCs is still limited. This study examined the osteogenic potential of ADSCs when added to hydroxyappatite in vivo and compared it to the osteogenic potential of bone marrow derived stromal stem cells (BMSCs) in the same autologous model of cancellous bone regeneration.
