In the FP7 project GLaSS, seven groups from differentrnEuropean countries co-operate on the preparation of thernuptake of Sentinel data, including use cases torndemonstrate the applicability of this new high-resolutionrndata on lakes with a large range of optical properties.rnWithin GLaSS there are work packages on validation,rnalgorithm comparisons and atmospheric correction thatrnrequire comparable and high quality in siturnmeasurements of the lakes. Unfortunately, the type ofrnradiometric instruments and lab techniques used by thernpartners are different with regard to specification,rnperformance and sensitivity. Hence, it is very importantrnto use standard protocols to make sure the results arerncomparable and requirements are fulfilled beforernvalidating results. The Ocean Optics Protocols forrnSeaWiFS Validation, later upgraded to “Ocean OpticsrnProtocols For Satellite Ocean Colour Sensor Validation”rn[3] are set up to allow such harmonization. GLaSS maderna start with the development of dedicated protocols forrnoptical measurements and satellite validation for inlandrnwaters of different types. Because several GLaSSrnpartners use the WISP-3 radiometer for reflectancernmeasurements, extra attention is put to check thernperformance of this instrument with regard to thernprotocols.
