EVALUATION OF TWO SITES FOR OCEAN COLOR VALIDATION IN THE TURBID WATERS OF THE RÍO DE LA PLATA (ARGENTINA)

The Río de la Plata (RdP) is a large and shallow estuaryrncarrying large amounts of dissolved and suspendedrnparticulate matter (100-300 g m~(−3)). The site is deal to a)rntest turbid water atmospheric correction algorithms forrncurrent and future OC missions, like S3-OLCI, and b) tornvalidate 1020nm OLCI band and test it’s usefulness tornestimate turbidity [1]. With the aim of choosing thernlocation to setup an autonomous validation site, likernAERONET-OC, two possible sites are characterized inrnterms of temporal, spatial and spectral variability ofrnoptical properties based on information from highrn(Landsat 8/OLI) and medium (MODIS-Aqua) spatialrnresolution satellite sensors.
