Discussion on the Cultivation Objectives of Marine Engineers--Also Touching upon the Necessity of the Post of Electrical Engineer

With the STCW 78/95 coming into effect,the post of electrical engineer was cancelled,the result being that all the related duties have been transferred to engineers. However,it is of great difficulty for marine engineers to undertake all the tasks required for the electrical engineers. Actually a large number of ships still retain this post. Under the cases where senior officers are short,the aim to cultivate marine engineers into compound electromechanical management personnel is beyond realization. This paper discusses the related factors and puts forward the short-term cultivation objectives of marine engineers and as well the suggestion of reposting the electrical engineers.
