Core-shell nanoparticles with an upconverting phosphorescent, lanthanide core and plasmonic gold shell are employed for Forster Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET). FRET is demonstrated from a highly efficient upconverting fluoride nanoparticle doped with Ytterbium (Yb) and Erbium (Er) ions to Streptavidin conjugated with Tetramethyl rhodamine fluorophore.
